BTCC Sunday: Dan Cammish, Ash Sutton and Colin Turkington share BTCC spoils at Croft

30 Jul 23

Dan Cammish, Ash Sutton and Colin Turkington scored a victory apiece today (July 30) as the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship served up a trio of blockbuster races for a bumper crowd that flocked trackside.

After qualifying on pole position on Saturday, NAPA Racing UK’s Cammish was wheel-perfect in the day’s opening encounter as he controlled proceedings out front to comfortably claim a third victory of the campaign.

Cammish’s team-mates Dan Rowbottom and three-time champion Sutton scrapped for the remaining spots on the podium - with the two swapping positions on the run to the flag - to secure a historic 1-2-3 result for the NAPA Racing UK outfit.

Race two would see three-time champion Sutton then come to the fore as he utilised the soft tyre to jump Cammish off the line and then pull clear to clinch a commanding seventh victory of the season.

Sweeping around the outside of his Motorbase stablemate on the run down to the first corner, Sutton didn’t put a wheel wrong once out front and stretched his advantage to more than seven seconds over the course of the 15-lap bout.

Behind, Cammish finished second whilst Rowbottom held off the charging Tom Ingram and Josh Cook to secure a second successive NAPA Racing UK podium sweep - strengthening their position at the summit of all championships.

Team BMW’s Turkington then brought the curtain down on the weekend’s action with a commanding lights-to-flag victory in the reverse grid encounter, reaffirming himself as the King of Croft.

Launching his BMW off from pole position, the four-time title winner held off an early charge from Ingram before settling into a groove to claim his third win of the season. Reigning champion Ingram and One Motorsport’s Cook completed the rostrum.

The full-throttle entertainment didn’t stop with the UK’s premier motorsport series though as the four championships that made up the billing on the TOCA support package delivered an abundance of edge-of-the-seat entertainment.

Connor Mills and Robert Barrable shared the spoils in three breathtaking Legends Cars Elite Cup with JLM races whilst Louis Sharp reigned supreme in the remaining ROKiT F4 British Championship certified by FIA encounter.

In the Porsche Sprint Challenge Great Britain there was no stopping Matthew Armstrong as he charged to a commanding victory, before Toby Trice triumphed in a shortened finale.

Concluding the weekend’s track action was the second enthralling contest from the Vertu Motors MINI CHALLENGE Trophy, which was won by Jack Byrne ahead of Tom Ovenden and Ashley Gregory.

The Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship returns to Croft Circuit in 2024 when the venue again plays host to Rounds 16, 17 & 18 on July 27/28.

Croft’s next race meeting to take place this year sees the Classic Touring Car Racing Club take centre stage on August 12/13 for a spectacular tin top festival. Tickets and event information can be found at https://www.croftcircuit.co.uk/racing/barc-aug.
