Northern Saloon & Sports Car Championship headlines this Sunday 15th at Croft Circuit

There is set to be another brilliant mix of sprint and endurance racing in store at the BRSCC’s first visit of the year to Croft Circuit in North Yorkshire this forthcoming weekend (May 14/15), with the Fun Cup Endurance Championship the Saturday highlight of yet another action-packed meeting.

The popular series will once again be contested over a gruelling four-hour period on Saturday afternoon as part of a 13-race schedule over the weekend with races for saloon, sports, and single-seaters also prominent over the weekend.

Croft has been synonymous over the years with the Formula Ford brand since the series was inaugurated in the 1960s and this weekend’s event sees rounds of both the Avon Tyres National and Northern Formula Ford Championships on both days.

The popular Ford Fiesta is represented with three rounds of the AIRTEC Motorsport Fiesta Championship whilst the stars of tomorrow will be contesting the BRSCC Fiesta Junior Championship in their usual non-compromising action no doubt.

One of the biggest grids will be reserved for the local Darlington & District Motor Club’s Northern Saloon & Sports Car Championship which sees an eclectic mix of cars contest the two races on Sunday. Paul Brydon took his BMW M3 to overall victory at the opening round at Oulton Park over Easter but expect the likes of Middlesbrough’s Jack Harper (Triumph Spitfire) and Darlington drivers Tom Bowes and Martin Lofthouse to uphold the local standings.

Tom Bowes, will be racing his Porsche, Tom is probably the youngest driver in the championship along with Hurworth driver Martin Lofthouse, who comes back to the championship after taking a few years break from racing, he has rebuilt his Triumph TR7 which is powered by a V8 engine.

Matty Cobb will be racing his newly built VW Beetle (photo attached), this has been built by HWR engineering, he raced it for the first time at the opening rounds at Oulton Park, finishing second to Paul Brydon, Solution F BMW. Jon Woolfitt, will be running his Silver and Orange Spire this will be the first rounds for Jon this season. All of the cars mentioned will be racing in the first race on Sunday.

Drivers making the trip from Cumbria are Chris Sparks Honda Civic Type R(27) and Mark Nolan driving a Ginetta G40 (no 34) Local contenders are MX5 driver James McCann (no 13) and Stephen Reed (no 153), both drivers hail from the Yarm area, they contribute to a total of 6 MX5’s in the race. Class B is the home of the larger engine cars, still retaining the silhouette of the road car. Mike Williamson (Mitsubishi Evo-No.49) is a man to watch following his two class B wins at Oulton Park last month. He will be under attack from the BMW drivers and Alan Gibson in his Lotus Exige.

Class C will be hotly contested and sees the return of our lady driver Maddy Hubel following a visit to the Armco at Oulton.

Practice gets underway at 9.30 on Saturday with the first of three races, including the Fun Cup Endurance race, commencing at 12.55 whilst Sunday sees track action from 12.00 with the remaining ten races starting at 12.25.

Adult admission is just £15.00 on both days in advance or £17.00 on the day with accompanied children aged 15 and under admitted FREE on both days. There is also FREE car parking and FREE paddock access.
